Description
Additional photos of this MV Agusta 125 Bialbero Racer are available here for your perusal.
MV’s illustrious racing history (including the 37 World Championships they love to show off on certain modern models) arguably started in 1950, when Count Agusta poached Piero Remor and Arturo Magni from Gilera. It didn’t hurt when FB Mondial stopped their racing program, but MV won their first championship (in the 125cc class) in 1952 with a redesigned model that had been updated with a narrower fuel tank and telescopic forks. Minor changes to the 125cc four-stroke twin cam engine bumped peak output to 15 horsepower.
For 1953, MV capitalized on their racing success by offering privateer racers access to the 125cc race bike with the option of dual cam (Bialbero) or single cam (Monoalbero) engines.
That year, MV also updated the race bike with Earles leading-link forks – the Italian firm ended up winning the manufacturer’s title again that year.
This example is VIN: 130042, Engine #: 0042. The seller acquired it in October 2021 from a Bonhams auction – in that auction, it is noted that the engine and frame are “believed unoriginal to one another.”
There is no odometer, true mileage is unknown.
The last time this bike was sold, Bonhams noted that “the MV was purchased from a German dealer, who had acquired it in Italy, and was last run in 2018. The machine’s mechanical condition is not known and thus it is sold strictly as viewed.” Included documentation shows that the dealership was Fuchs Motorrad and they said that “the little MV has no history.”
