The styling may be polarizing, but no one can argue how important the Dream was in Honda’s rise to power in the motorcycle industry.
The CA77 was introduced in 1960 with a parallel-twin engine that utilized a 360-degree crank (the pistons rise and fall at the same time but alternatively fire). The 305cc engine produced 24 horsepower, which was enough to get the 350 pound (dry) bike up to 86 miles per hour. While it spawned a smaller 247cc version as well as a 305cc Sport version, the regular 305 was a surprisingly competent touring bike thanks to the comfortable ergonomics, reliable engine, ample use of steel (including the fender and side covers) and enclosed drive chain.
The gas tank shape changed in late 1963 but otherwise Honda generally left the bike alone through its production run.
This example is VIN: CA78100443. Engine: CA77E100852. The owner purchased the bike from a private party out of Albany, Oregon, and states, “I purchased this bike for my collection 12 years ago. Now I’m moving and down sizing. It comes with all import documentation.”
The odometer shows 4,544 miles. The seller notes he has not added mileage to the bike under his ownership.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “New oil and battery in preparation for the auction. Fuel petcock leaks and will require new seals.” Dreamcycle has provided the following inspection report:
Modifications:
The seller states, “Stock seat was recovered, new tires many years ago.”
It is riding on Atlas tires which are aged out.
The sale includes one key, Clymer manual, owner’s manual, vintage license plate, original title, and photograph of original owner.
