Description
Additional photos of this Suzuki GS550 custom are available here for your perusal.
Introduced in 1977, Suzuki’s GS550 was one of their earliest 4-stroke bikes. The 549cc engine put out 49 horsepower and the whole package weighed 431 pounds wet, good for a top speed of 111 miles per hour and a quarter-mile time under 14 seconds. It was smooth, fast, and a great all-around machine. Cycle World called it “a machine with any number of solid virtues, but they’re subtle virtues, the kind that take some familiarity to appreciate.” But you might need to throw all of that out of the window with this bike, as it’s been heavily customized by Ezikiel Dacanay into a hybrid between a board tracker and a bobber.
This example is VIN: GS550101046, Engine #: GS550-102190.
Modifications:
Suicide/jockey shift with integrated starter button and neutral light. It also has a kickstarter.
The frame was powdercoated Tiffany Blue.
Shaved forks with brass caps and Joker Machine fork boot collars. Billet triple tree and Joker Machine clip-on adapter.
The sale includes straight clip-on handlebars as well.
Joker Machine foot mid pegs, Joker Machine rear brake strap, Joker Machine rear brake rod assembly.
21″ rims wrapped in Avon Speedmaster Mk II tires with 2015 date codes.
4 into 1 open exhaust, which has been wrapped.
This machine was featured at the 2017 OG Moto Show as well as the 2019 Quail Motorcycle Gathering, and it got mentions in a Motorcyclist story about the former and a Motorcycle Cruiser story about the latter. It’s often the center of attention, and now it can be yours!
We sold this on our auction site to the current owner last fall – he’s had it on display and is ready to move it on to the next caretaker.
We note that the bike fires up and runs but does not idle – it will likely need a carb cleaning.
The right side footpeg interferes with the brake lever.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California, this custom GS (VIN: GS550101046) is offered on a salvaged California title with non-op registration.
