Suzuki offered four versions of the GS650 – the G, GL, G Katana, and the E. The E was offered as an all-rounder with a chain final drive.
One of the advantages of the 650E was that (even with cast wheels and double disc front brakes) it was 40 pounds lighter than the GS750. As Cycle World put it in a period review, “in almost every way, this 650 is a better motorcycle than the original 750” thanks to decent suspension, a comfortable ride, and “superb” brakes.
More from Cycle World: “If the GS650E has a flaw, it must be styling that is in such good taste that it might not get noticed. In performance, noting in its class is better. it is the fastest 650 tested to date. It has no handling quirks. It’s fun to ride on a variety of roads…it exudes a do-it-all competence that needs no apology.”
Manufactured in March of 1981, this example is VIN: JS1GP71A4B2101649, Engine #: GS650-101994.
The odometer shows 5,774 miles.
The seller states that it’s 100% stock except and upgraded fork springs and rear shocks.
The seller notes some minor touch ups on the gas tank.
Before this Suzuki went up on our auction site, the seller asked our White Glove service to go through the carbs. We cleaned the pilot jets.
The sale includes the original owner’s manual, tool kit, and two keys. There are also receipts for IRC tires in 11/2016 from Purdy’s Powersports, a new petcock from Everett Powersports in 2/2019, Sonic Springs fork springs (0.90 kg/mm) in 10/2017, and paper notes from a valve adjustment at 9/2016 at 5,662 miles.
