Additional photos of this this 1989 Honda GB500 Tourist Trophy are available here for your perusal.

Honda’s GB500 was an homage to classic British singles but there was a twist – it was reliable! The average American rider shopping for a Japanese bike at the time was more interested in the bigger supersport replicas, but the Tourist Trophy has become a cult classic.

For more on what it’s like to ride the GB500, check out this fantastic 1989 Cycle World review from Peter Egan. He concludes it by saying “Simplicity and grace are never out of style, and the GB is a simple, handsome bike. It’s not a Velocette Venom Clubman, but I don’t care. We already have Venom Clubmen if we want them. This is a new motorcycle that looks good and is fun to ride, and there are never enough of those.”

The GB (Great British) was offered with a 400cc engine in Japan and a 500cc motor in the US. The 498cc air-cooled single produced 33 horsepower at the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and a wet clutch. A stellar example of “more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow”, the GB was easy to ride and one of the most stylish machines that Honda has ever built.

Manufactured in November of 1988, this example is VIN: JH2PC1608KK001351. The seller acquired it two years ago from a private collector and is only selling it because he acquired a zero-mile example from us in June of this year.

The odometer shows 38 miles. The seller has not put any miles on it as he has had it on display with no gas in the tank or carbs.

The seller is the second owner. He says that the “previous owner rode it 38 miles the first year when it was new and then drained all the gasoline and kept it in a climate controlled environment thereafter. As far as I know it runs but I have personally never started it. Previous owner and I both turned over the pistons periodically. Kept in climate controlled environment its whole life including heat, air conditioning and a commercial air filtering system.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
This machine presents incredibly well, with minor pitting in a couple of the turn signal housings and gas cap.

It recently won 1st Place People’s Choice in the 1980s-1990s Honda class at the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club Show at the 2021 Barber Vintage Festival.

The sale includes the above trophy. The stand shown in some photos is not included.

Currently located in Northbrook, Illinois, this Honda is offered on a clean Illinois title.
