The Yamaha YSR50 was the most common of the rare 50cc sportbikes that came from Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. An instant classic, the YSR50 was always street legal and always seems to put a smile on the face of riders and spectators.
Built to look like a mini RZ500, the YSR50 also featured mini performance. The 49.3cc two-stroke engine was capable of pushing the bike up to 38 miles per hour, but companies like Team Calamari have been making stock performance numbers useless with years of aftermarket parts and performance modifications if you are so inclined.
Manufactured January 1989, this example is VIN: JYA2RRA01KA021577. The seller purchased the bike three years ago from a private party out of San Francisco, California, and states, “I bought it from the second owner about 3 years ago because of the super low miles… Because it was a SF bike it had the standard surface rust on the frame and steal parts… Not horrible but because of the low miles I decided to restore it cosmetically which took the better part of 2 years.”
The odometer shows 198 miles. The seller states, “I spent the last 2 years restoring it and then I rode it up my street and back.”
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I replaced all the oil seals within both sides of the engine while I had the covers off for paint, then a fresh gear oil change, a brand new air filter and new brake fluid. This bike was stripped all the way down and cosmetically restored… The engine was perfect inside as it should have been with only 198 miles on it so I left it alone with just doing the oil seals and painting the side covers.”
Modifications:
“The entire body set was in great shape with no cracks but the decals were coming off in certain areas so I sent them all to Andy at Modern Classic Sportbike restorations @MCSR to do a full restore on all the plastics, tank and wheels. (He posted videos of these parts on his youtube channel).”
It is riding on Bridgestone Molas tires which have aged out.
The sale includes one key, and tool kit.
