Additional photos of this 1991 Yamaha DT50 LC are available here for your perusal.

Going all the way back to 1968, Yamaha’s DT lineup was popular from the beginning – the originally DT-1 sold out of its initial run as it basically defined what a dual-sport could be and buyers couldn’t get enough of it. The DT prefix lasted for decades across a variety of machines displacing between 50cc and 400cc. Here’s one of the small ones, which was built between 1981-1996.

The DT50 was a tiny dual-sport powered by a 49cc two-stroke single, with a 2.2 gallon fuel tank, 19″/17″ wheels, and (by 1991) a six-speed transmission. The US and Europe got a liquid cooled version (denoted as the LC) – it’s nothing fancy, but it was enough to approach 60 miles per hour and you can ride it on just about any surface.

This example is VIN: 3UN-020714, Engine #: 3UN-020714.

The odometer shows 33,663 kilometers (20,917 miles)

It comes to us from South Africa, where it received a “show quality full nut & bolt restoration”, after which it won 2nd place at the 2019 “1000 Bike Show”.

The owner who paid for the restoration work intended for the bike to be “a birthday gift to his wife whom did not appreciate the gesture or value of a classic motorcycle.” It was then shipped to us to auction off.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

Inside of the tank:

In preparation for the listing, we cleaned the carb, installed new oil pump cover bolts, and installed a new battery.

Mechanical Issues:
Our technicians noted that the petcock leaks and the rear light does not work.

The sale includes two keys.

It is riding on Kenda dual-sport tires from 2019.
