Additional photos of this 1999 KTM 660 Rallye are available here for your perusal.
Per the seller, this is “a 1999 KTM LC4 660 Factory Rallye bike which was raced in the UAE Desert Challenge for a couple of years by British rider Dave McBride and then by Peter Robson, a South African rider sponsored by Alfie Cox.”
“This is the same factory built bikes as the legendary KTM’s that dominated the Dakar rally raids in the late 90’s and and as confirmed by the owner and the scrutineering markings on the bike it was it was last entered into the UAE Desert Challenge where according to the owner who I bought the bike from it did not actually run the race due to a kick start issue on the day. So the bike was entered, but not raced.”
“The bike was stripped to the frame and repainted with original grey. Staying in the desert we are lucky not to suffer from rust, so it was just to make sure that everything was perfect under the skin. The engine was also stripped and rebuilt. All other drivetrain components were replaced with OEM parts.”
“A Trail Tech navigation system was added with GPS speed/distance/train functionality. And finally a year after searching for every nut and bolt around the world, we also added mirrors and turn signals. This now has a valid registration plate and is road legal.”
“The bike comes with a huge amount of extremely rare and some impossible to find engine spares worth thousands of dollars including a brand new and still boxed cylinder, three cylinder heads, crank, conrod, gears, cam, clutch assembly and almost enough bits and pieces to build a whole new engine except an engine case.”
The seller has several pictures from the restoration process, a small sample is provided below:
The seller notes three minor issues:
1. “The auxiliary fuel tanks are not plumbed at the moment so it is only running from the main 30 liter (7.92 gallon) tank in front. The right hand side tank has a crack on it.”
Currently located in Dubai, Dubai, this KTM is offered on a clean United Arab Emirates title. The seller is letting it go to fund a new project. Have any KTM Rallye stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
