In 2009, Harley-Davidson launched a one-make race series as part of the BSB (British Super Bike) calendar. They called it the Harley-Davidson XR1200 Trophy, and the 10-race series was battled over nine weekends. Many Harley fans know about the BSB series and how it predated an American-based series with Vance & Hines and the AMA. But what they likely don’t know is that the BSB series was inspired by a one-off race the previous year at the Autodromo dell’Umbria in Magione, Italy.
That one-off race was informally called the Italian XR1200 Trophy, and it featured a staggering grid of 48 bikes that were all supported by local H-D dealerships. The long list of riders included ex-WSB racers, the 1989 Euro 250cc Champion (Andrea Borgonovo), and several privateers. Here’s a video from HarleyVillage on YouTube showing some of the Italian race:
Harley-Davidson would go on to offer a “Trophy kit” for the public, but this example (VIN: 5HD1LA6148K462733, Engine #: LA68462733) is one of the original 48 bikes that raced at Magione. The seller acquired it from Pescara Harley-Davidson in October 2014.
During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 4,500 kilometers. The odometer shows 8,667 kilometers (5,385 miles).
