“If you absolutely, positively need to be able to wheelie at any time, this would be the bike for you.” That’s how Loz Blain described the incredible Super Duke R in a New Atlas review when KTM released it in 2014. KTM had a much quicker description – they just called it “The Beast.”
This example (VIN: VBKV39402FM931224) was bought new at GP Motorcycles in San Diego, California. 2.5 years later, it was traded into a local shop where the seller was a sales manager, and he bought it while it was on consignment.
It has been in the seller’s possession for 1.5 years, during which he’s covered approximately 2,000 miles. The odometer now shows 12,979 miles.
In the seller’s words, “the KTM 1290 Super Duke R (The Beast) is one of those bikes you simply have to experience. This is a perfect example which does not get the attention it deserves. No cost was spared in building this.”
Modifications:
“The bike has had a complete 3M clear bra since day one. Not a single scratch anywhere.” It also has KTM heated grips, KTM anodized brake/clutch reservoir covers, and the full KTM graphics kit.

Per the seller, this KTM “was just serviced for this sale including the recommended 18,000 mile service (way early) including new spark plugs, air filter, oil change, Valve check, new brake and clutch fluid and radiator flush. I also installed a new set of Dunlop Q3+ for the new owner. I also installed a new 520 chain (DID gold) and sprockets less than 200 miles ago. All services were done through authorized KTM dealers. I completed the 12K recommended service when I purchased the bike as well as $6k in upgrades. The new owner could not possibly get a better bike.” He states that there are no mechanical issues and that it is a “9.5 out of 10” cosmetically.
The sale includes the owner’s book, tool kit, and two keys.
Currently located in Ventura, California, this KTM 1290 Super Duke R is offered on a clean California title with registration current through September 2021. Have any Super Duke stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
