Description
Once the top of the line Chief model, Polaris revived the Roadmaster name in 2015. The bike was the touring evolution of the bagger Chieftain although Indian claims the Roadmaster was developed first, saying, “We learned with the Victory V92C that starting with a cruiser and adding things to make it a touring bike doesn’t work as well as developing the touring bike and taking things off.”
The Roadmaster was designed for long trips on the open road, i.e. comfort. This meant better wind protection with moveable wind deflectors, better line of sight for the electrically adjustable screen, heated grips, and heated seats. Other nice refinements include: remote locks for all three pieces of luggage, 17 gallon carpet lined trunk with internal LED lighting and 12V outlet, wrap-around passenger backrest with two 50 watt speakers, and height and angle adjustable floorboards.
The Thunder Stroke 111 air-cooled, 49-degree V-twin carried over from the Chieftan and Rider Magazine called the powermill, “One of the most impressive engines in cruiserdom.” When they tested a 2014 Chieftan with the same motor on a dyno, they reported 76 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. Power much needed on a bike weighing 897 pounds dry.
