The natural evolution of the 1199 Superleggera, Ducati’s 1299 Superleggera was also produced in a limited run of just 500 units. Just like its predecessor, the focus on a winning combination of more power and less weight. Courtesy of an oversquare 1,285cc engine, the power figure was raised to a staggering 215hp at 11,000rpm and 108.0 lb-ft torque at 9,000 rpm – plus another 5 horsepower with the Akrapovic exhaust included in the “race kit”.
The weight savings would make Colin Chapman proud, as Ducati extensively utilized lightweight materials – the main frame, subframe, single-sided swingarm, and wheels were all made of carbon fiber. Other touches included non-electronic suspension (that was too heavy, of course), a fixed swingarm pivot (adjustability adds weight), and titanium parts throughout the engine. All this yielded a dry weight of just 339.5 pounds (368 pounds curb).
That means there’s less mass for the Ohlins suspension and impressive brakes to manage and slow down: Brembo Monobloc Evo M50 4-piston calipers up front with 2-piston calipers in the rear, complemented by cornering ABS.
The seller of this example (VIN: ZDMHAAJW9HB000303) is the original owner. He bought it new from Beverly Hills Ducati – it is #344 out of 500.
The seller notes that he “custom engineered a bracket for the belly pan – this uses the 1299 Final Edition carbon fiber belly pan, negating the requirement to cut the original one that came with the 1299 SL in order to use the side stand. The original will also be provided.”
The seller notes that all recalls are up to date and the last oil change as done in October or November of 2019. All work (including the Akrapovic installation) were done by V1 Moto in Houston, Texas.
The sale includes a cover (used as the bike is always covered, battery charger, two keys, owner’s manual, new mirror block off plates, and the Ducati Data Analyzer. It also includes a new in box front stand and a used rear stand.
Currently located in Austin, Texas, this Ducati is offered on a clean California title with registration that expired in 2018. Since then, the owner has registered it with Texas plates while still maintaining the California title. If the next owner is in California, the seller will cover the cost of making registration current. Have any Superleggera stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
