11-9-25 Update: The maintenance section originally had outdated information from the pre-auction inspection that the seller then had Iconic handle. We do not have any maintenance-related suggestions for this Kawasaki.
With much fanfare, Kawasaki brought back the 400cc/inline-4 motorcycle. “Some of us may remember back in the late ’80s and early ’90s when every major Japanese motorbike manufacturer produced high-quality 400cc sport bikes. They were direct copies of Superbikes of the time. The only problem was, we couldn’t get one here in the States. The closest we could get was Yamaha’s FZR 400, but it wasn’t anywhere near the quality of build or styling as its gray market sibling, the FZR400RR SP.” – Motorcycle.com

“The 4RR is all-new, but you could be forgiven for thinking the spec sheet reads something like the larger ZX-636. Items like ram air, fully adjustable suspension, four-piston monobloc brakes, quickshifter, and a screaming 16,000 rpm redline is normally reserved for race-spec 600s, but all of it can be found on the 4RR.” – Cycle News

“The jewel at the heart of the Ninja ZX-4RR is undoubtedly the engine. The liquid-cooled DOHC 16-valve inline-four displaces 399cc and has a 57.0 x 39.2mm bore and stroke. Inside that engine is a lot of technology that Kawasaki has learned racing its ZX-6R and ZX-10R platforms. The aluminum die-cast cylinders have bores that are chrome-composite plated for reduced friction and better durability. The oversquare bores allow the use of large 22.1mm intake and 19mm exhaust valves for good airflow, while the short 39mm stroke allows high-rpm performance with a near-16,000 rpm redline. Forged camshafts actuate valves with triple-rate springs capable of dealing with the high rpm attainable by the engine.” – Cycle World

Manufactured in March of 2023, this example is VIN: ML5ZXCS18PDA01262.

The odometer shows 4,889 miles.

The seller is the original owner, he purchased it new from Salinas Kawasaki roughly 18 months ago. He is selling it as he no longer has enough garage space for it. “Seriously one of the best bikes ever made. Been around Laguna Seca, up & down California Coast and all canyons in between.” He goes on to say “the decal kit is factory Kawasaki produced in honor of the partnership team green had with Bimota at the time. The kanji translates literally to ‘don’t crash’ or ‘don’t highside.'”
