KTM’s middleweight Duke was first released in 2005 with the company’s LC8 V-twin which was subsequently updated in 2007 and 2012. Through its evolution it gained in popularity and now Cycle World calls the 990 Super Duke one of the “Best Used Bikes”. Although many of KTM’s various sized Dukes maintained continuous production throughout the years, the 990 was put on ice back in 2012 before being resurrected in 2024.
Dubbed “The Sniper”, the bike has been modernized and is 96% new, per KTM. Gone is the V-twin, it’s been updated to a 947cc parallel-twin capable of 123hp and 76lb-ft of torque. The tubular steel trellis frame is stiffer with improved torsional rigidity, in part with help from the frame now running outside the swingarm. KTM claims the overall stiffness is up 15 percent.
Sporting a more aggressive look than its predecessors, it also features a state of the art electronics package consisting of an LED headlight with an advanced lighting system which automatically adjustments based on ambient conditions, five rider modes including Rain, Street, Sport, Performance, and Track, and a 5-inch TFT display which uses various illustrations depending on which setting is selected.
This example is VIN: VBKTV940XRM994173. The seller purchased the bike May 2024 from Gray Area KTM in Lane County, Oregon, and states, “It was used for development purposes for my race team. Runs strong, handles amazing, wheelies like a champ!”
