While the US has been blessed with the modern Africa Twin, we never officially got any of the previous models – starting with the 650cc model that began it all in 1988. The second generation was the RD04 (also known as the XRV750), which was produced between 1990 and 1992.
This generation was a homage to Paris-Dakar racers and was heavily inspired by the 4x P-D winning Honda NXR-750. The styling was quite similar to the first gen but it got a new 742cc V-Twin engine, improvements to the chassis, and triple disc brakes.
The AT was based on Honda’s impressive desert racers, which had good success in competitions like the Paris-Dakar rally. It produced 61 horsepower but the goal was for long term reliability and easily managed output, not winning drag races. That’s why this bike has a stellar reputation for reliability and many riders have seen six figure readings on their odometers. Plus, it looks much better than most modern “beaked” big enduros.
This example is VIN: RD043201351. The seller acquired it three years ago from an Africa Twin dealer in Germany.
During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 600 miles. The odometer shows 77,866 kilometers (48,383 miles).
Modifications:
Aftermarket crash bars.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes a “paint touch-up on right side of the tank. It’s generally in good rider condition but not a show bike.”
Recent Maintenance:
“New tires, windshield, battery, ignition system (regulator, coils, wires, plugs), full tune-up.” The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues.
It is riding on Michelin Anakee tires from 2019.
The sale includes three keys (one pictured) as well as a small box of spares that include a fuel pump, tubes, and replacement filters.
Currently located in San Francisco, California this Honda is offered with a German title and customs import documentation. Have any Africa Twin stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
