One of the stars of The Matrix Reloaded was a Ducati 996 – it featured in a fantastic chase scene which was popular enough to inspire Ducati to release a limited run of their own. The directors reportedly spent $2.5M on building a faux freeway to film the scene.

By the time the second installment of the Matrix trilogy was released, the Italian marque had replaced the 996 with the 998 in dealerships. Changes included a dark green livery like that of the movie bike and Matrix Reloaded decals on the tail.

Different sources cite different production figures – Ducati forums often state 120 or 150, while MCN says 93 were built. We may never know the exact number, but it’s definitely a low one.

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5VX4B022617. The seller acquired it in December 2020 from a private party in California.

The odometer shows 9,356 miles.

Documented Maintenance History:
8/3/16 – EuroSports in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania (no longer in business):
Valve adjustment, new timing belts.
12/5/20 Ducati Newport Beach in Costa Mesa, California:
New Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tires.

The sale includes a “Letter of Conformity” from Ducati which confirms that this VIN is a genuine Matrix model.

It is said to be completely stock except for a tank protector.

Please note that the tank protector is a magnet. This is how it looks underneath, there is a very tiny pinhole chip above the warning sticker.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

The seller states that there are no mechanical issues. He is letting it go to fund the purchase of a MV Agusta F4 RC. Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California, this Ducati is offered on a clean California title. Have any 998 Matrix stories or questions about this listing?
