In 2001, Harley-Davidson introduced a surprising model to their lineup. Called the V-Rod, it featured what Harley called the “Revolution” motor. The name was quite apt, as it was Harley’s first mass-produced liquid-cooled, DOHC engine.

The V-Rod was a serious departure from prior Harleys: the air-cooled V-Twins were at 45 degrees, while this engine was at 60. In addition, the fuel tank was just a cover that housed the airbox – the real tank was under the seat.

The engine was co-developed with the Porsche Engineering Group. As they put it, “Against the backdrop of a collaboration stretching back to the 1970s, the Porsche engineers constructed a water-cooled 1131cc motor based on a racing engine that delighted Harley-Davidson’s demanding clientele both for its performance as well as its imposing sound. With a DOHC valvetrain and electronically controlled fuel injection, the VRSC-series Harley with its four-valve engine put out up to 120hp.” Porsche fans will note the gauges, which are very similar in style to what you’d find in the also liquid-cooled 996.

Manufactured in March of 2004, this example is VIN: 1HD1HBZ384K808224. The seller acquired it seven years ago from a private party in California.

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 1,000 miles. The odometer shows 18,433 miles.
