Introduced as the “Black Bomber” in 1968, the CB450 K0 was Honda’s first large displacement motorcycle – they called it a “heavyweight” in their introductory advertisements. The K1 got a dramatic restyle that kept the large chrome tank panels, but it wasn’t until the K2 that Honda debuted the styling that stayed mostly consistent through the rest of the CB450 model lineup.
In 1970, the K3 model was revised with a 19″ front wheel, front disk brake, megaphone exhaust, larger tail light, and several other minor cosmetic changes. It would remain mostly the same through 1972 and the K5 model featured here. This CB450 (VIN: CB450-5024053) was given a frame-off restoration in 2016 and it has covered less than 600 miles since. If you were at the One Moto Show in 2018, you would have seen this beauty on display.
The seller acquired the bike from the Florida-based restorer in August of 2017 through eBay, but the former is now 73 and he no longer rides frequently. The restorer also runs a motorcycle gauges restoration business, and this CB benefited from those services. Highlights of the restoration work include new gaskets and seals, new tapered roller bearings, new wheels with zinc spokes, new cables, new wiring, and period-correct Bridgestone Accolade tires.
