In 1988, Harley-Davidson celebrated their 85th Anniversary with festivities in Milwaukee. Harley-Davidson themselves say that it ‘set the standard for Motor Company anniversaries to follow as approximately 60,000 riders converged on Milwaukee for entertainment, poker runs and many other events.’ It was the first time that Harley fans converged on Wisconsin for a HD anniversary – the focus was on raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the commemoration brought in over half a million.
Harley created limited runs of their models in 1988, including 850 examples of the FLH, 1,450 examples of the FXSTS, and 850 examples of the FXRS. The changes were solely cosmetic, but it started a tradition that continues today of HD Anniversary models.
Cosmetically, you would never guess that this example (VIN: 1HD1EBL26JY126959) has over 16,000 miles. It looks basically showroom new. Like most Harley-Davidsons, this bike has a few aftermarket upgrades: Screaming Eagle fork brace, aftermarket exhaust, custom intake with a UNI foam filter, and custom seat. Also like most Harley-Davidsons, it marks its presence with the occasional drop of oil when parked. It’s loud, it’s stylish, and it’s in beautiful shape. All it needs is a new rider!
