The 1974 Suzuki GT185 stands as a high-water mark for mid-1970s lightweight two-strokes, offering a unique amalgamation of commuter agility, true grand touring performance, and all-around practicality—with Suzuki’s automatic oil-injection system, a front disc brake, and dual electric and kick start.
While it did share its larger-displacement siblings’ ram air cooling system, the 185’s system was cast directly into the cylinder heads—rather than being bolted on. The 185 also carries over the unmistakably 1970s aesthetics of its bigger three-cylinder counterparts.
As original two-stroke lightweights grow increasingly scarce, clean examples of the GT185 continue to gain appreciation among vintage Japanese motorcycle enthusiasts. In the December 2007 issue of Rider Magazine, the outlet published a retrospective article delving into the history of the model and breaking down what made it so special.
