Additional photos of this 1992 Honda NR750 are available here for your perusal.
Forget ultimate Honda – in some circles, this is the ultimate motorcycle, and we feel very lucky to have had a few come through our shop doors. Also known as the RC40, this bike was a technological showcase for Big Red that featured oval pistons, a 16-bit sensor with 7 sensors to control the fuel injection, carbon fiber bodywork and a titanium-tinted screen. With all of that tech, this bike retailed at around $50k – 5 times as much as their previous top of the line sportbike.
The internal model name was RC40, though it was also officially called the NR (New Racing). Indeed, the commonly-used name of NR750 isn’t technically correct – that name belongs to the endurance racer that Honda campaigned. Whatever you call it, this is one of the greatest motorcycles of all time.
For a few reasons out of their control, Honda wasn’t allowed to homologate the NR for racing, so the Japanese manufacturer decided to get crazy with some speed records instead.
Honda shaved nearly 100 pounds (396 from 489) off a stock example and then built up a motor to put out 150 horsepower. Then they asked MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi to see what it can do, and he responded by setting world records for the flying mile, standing mile, flying kilometer, and standing 10 kilometer!
Just 300 examples were produced worldwide, and people are still in awe about what Honda was able to bring together in a production road bike. For more examples of what made the NR ahead of its time, check out this profile on Visor Down.
This example is truly Iconic – it’s a Euro market import with just 5 kilometers on the odometer. Euro models were differentiated with larger exhaust exits, projection beam headlight on one side, and a lack of the two smaller running lights under the headlights.
The sale includes the OEM stand, service manual, carbon key, tool kit, and a factory-sealed battery with unopened acid pack.
This is one of the few “zero mile” examples left, and it’s even more unique as it’s cosmetically perfect and offered with European specifications! We’ll be sad to see this one go.
