Retro-inspired modern classics seem to be all the rage right now, but a few companies were well-ahead of the game. One of the most notable efforts was the Kawasaki ZRX1200R – Cycle World called it “a replica of a replica“, as it was designed to make you think of the iconic 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica.
It was available in silver, red, and the traditional Kawasaki Green, but there was also a beautiful shade of Candy Lightning Blue/Galaxy Silver.
The 1,164cc DOHC liquid-cooled engine produced 123 horsepower, good for a top speed of over 120 mph. It’s fun but also comfortable if you’re the kind of person that wants to ride for hours at a time.
The seller of this example (VIN: JKAZR9A173A026709) acquired it in 2012 with 6,000 miles on the odometer from ex-AMA Formula 1 privateer racer Nicki Richichi. Richichi was the original owner, and he bought this bike new from Long Island Kawasaki in Hicksville, New York.
The odometer currently reads 6,833 – the seller took these photos out on a recent ride.
It is equipped with a long list of excellent upgrades, such as Ohlins shocks.

Galfer stainless steel front/rear brake + clutch lines and Race Tech compression + rebound kit w/ 1.0 kg springs in forks.

The sale includes all stock parts except for the fork internals, exhaust can, and wear items.
The sale also includes some ZRX proprietary tools and some brand new parts that were never installed, including a tip over sensor, float bowl gauge, and a tensioner tamer from ZRX specialist Pete “KWICK” Aronson, and a custom oil line from Greg Couch.
There are no mechanical issues to note. Cosmetically, the seller points out “minor wear on the cylinder head, chipping on fork, and a clear coat scratch on the tank.”
The seller is selling it simply as he’s not riding it as much as he thought he would. Here’s your chance to add to the odometer of a well-modified ZRX.
