Information is tough to find on these fascinating runabouts, but from what we’ve been able to determine this is one of 50 units built by a company that wanted to get people racing with minis. The firm was called New Monkey Racing, and the end result was the gloriously-named Super Monkey!
In essence, the Super Monkeys were baby replicas of early 80s GP bikes – the Kawasaki KR500, Suzuki RGB500, Yamaha YZR500, and, as you probably guessed from these photos, the 1985 Grand Prix Championship-winning Honda NSR500 raced by Fast Freddie Spencer!
It’s a kit that’s completely bolt-on – no modification required to the stock frame. The bodywork is an obvious change, but the kit also includes a subframe that converts the Monkey into a monoshock.
You’ll have to figure out if this is street legal in your state or not, but it does have lights and turn signals.
You’ll note some “S. Monkey” touches throughout, such as the brake caliper mounts and shift lever.

We got this as part of an estate sale, and it had been accumulating dust for an unknown amount of years.
We had Olly clean it up and go through it to make sure it runs.
The odometer shows 426 kilometers (266 miles).
There are minor cosmetic blemishes throughout but nothing that affects the functionality of the machine. We’ve included photos of all the cosmetic issues we could find in the album up top.
We’ve tried our hardest to find comps to help value this rare Super Monkey – the only thing we’ve been able to find is one in Belgium for 12,500 Euros (~$14,000). The seller’s reserve is much lower, and we hope this finds a new home!
