For 2005, KTM offered two versions of their track-only supermoto racer, the SMR. Both were named for approximate displacement, and the Austrians sold a 450 and a 525. The latter was fueled by a 41mm Keihin carb fed by a 1.9 gallon tank, and the entire package weighed just 241 pounds dry.
As you’d expect from the “Ready to Race” company, this was equipped with impressive components, such as the WP 48mm USD forks and PDS shock.
The seller of this example (VIN: VBKEXE408M142618, Engine # 5-590*01167*) is a buddy of ours over at Yoshimura R&D of America.
The Trail Tech Vapor gauge shows 1,005 miles, however we do not know how many miles the bike had on it when the gauge was swapped and the seller notes that he’s not confident that the speedometer is set up correctly as it reads too high. True mileage is unknown.
Off the dealer floor, the 525 SMR was a red sticker bike in California (closed course only). To run this on the street, the seller did a frame swap with a 2004 KTM EXC.
At the time, the seller also converted the bike to electric start with all KTM equipment and installed a Hinson slipper clutch.

Located at our facility in Santa Monica, California for inspection, this KTM is offered on a clean California title with registration current through May 2021.
The sale includes most of the OEM parts (including the frame and exhaust), an extra Leo Vince x3 exhaust, and a box/instructions for the Trail Tech Vapor dash.
Steve the Professor put it up on our lift to adjust the air/fuel mixture screw on the carb, the compression release, and the exhaust valve clearances – it’s a strong runner.
The Iconic team recently spent a day with Brian at SoCal Supermoto and had an absolute blast on their Suzuki DR-Z 400s. We can only imagine what it would be like to ride this on the track – thanks to the seller’s efforts you can now enjoy it on the street, too!
