The US has been blessed with the modern Africa Twin, though we never officially got any of the previous models, starting with the 650cc model that began it all in 1988. In 1990, the bike got a displacement bump to 742cc and became known as the XRV750. This generation was a homage to Paris-Dakar racers and was heavily inspired by the 4x P-D winning Honda NXR-750.
In 1993, the Africa Twin got a redesign – model fans know it as the RD07 generation. It was a comprehensive redesign with a new frame and bodywork that focused on lowering the center of gravity, bringing the seat height down to 33.8 inches in the process.
Also becoming smaller was the fuel capacity, down to a still-ample 6.1 gallons. For the RD07, Honda emphasized durability to the point that they even slightly chopped power down to 59 horsepower and 49 pound-feet of torque. You’re not going to win any drag races, but the under-stressed V-Twin motor has a well-earned reputation for being very reliable.
It appears that this example (VIN: RD072005018) was originally sold in the UK at Stafford Motorcycles, though it’s now on a clean Pennsylvania title so it’s one of the few RD07 Africa Twins that’s street legal in the United States. The seller bought this bike from Iconic back in April, but he has since found an example he likes more and as such this AT needs a new home.
The UK license plate is still mounted on the bike and is included in the sale. The PA license plate is not included.
The odometer shows 34,508 miles.
The bike is equipped with an aftermarket seat.
The sale includes the tool kit.
This AT has lots of signs of being a workhorse in the wet climate of England – it could use some elbow grease, there’s some rust, and the bike has gone down on both sides. But as shown in the video up top, it’s a runner and it fires up immediately. This Africa Twin is ready for more “Adventure Sports”!
