Description
Additional photos of this 2000 Aprilia RS50 are available here for your perusal.
Introduced in the early 90s, the Aprilia RS50 became a breakout hit in 1999 thanks to an aluminum frame (making it the first mass-produced 50cc with a die-cast aluminum frame) as well as a styling update reminiscent of Aprilia’s GP race bikes. European youths were all over it as licensing rules were relaxed for <50cc motorcycles and scooters.
The heart of the ’00 RS50 was a 49.7cc Motori-Minarelli AM6 two-stroke engine paired with a six-speed transmission. Unrestricted models are capable of 60 miles per hour, depending on the weight of the rider.
Aprilia offered a series of Limited Edition “Identikits” throughout the years, each of which featured a special livery. Today’s example has one of our favorites, the 2000 “Nastro Azzurro” based on Valentino Rossi’s RSW250 championship-winning racer from 1999. Rossi left Aprilia to join Honda in the top tier 500cc GP Championship before this Identikit was released.
This example (VIN: ZD4SE00003S006396) is part of the estate sale that you’ve probably seen us mention on Instagram.
The odometer shows 7,846 kilometers (4,875 miles).
It is equipped with an Arrow exhaust.
It came to us as a non-runner that was missing a few small bits like the mirror. The seller wanted to minimize their service bill but they had us make sure that it starts and runs – the horn and turn signals also work. Please note that the regular headlight switch does not work, but the ‘flash to pass’ button does. Little surprise for a two-stroke 50: it has an electric start!
There are several cosmetic issues, most notably a crack in the front fairing and some scratches throughout. Photos of all known cosmetic issues are included int he album up top.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment if you’d like to inspect it), this RS50 is offered on a Bill of Sale only. This would be a wonderful winter project for the next owner, or our White Glove Service would be glad to finish her up if the winning bidder desires. Either way, it’s offered with no reserve so it is guaranteed to find a new owner. Have any RS50 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments below!
