In the late 70s, Honda offered both a CB750F and a CB900F, but per their marketing department the US only got the 750 and Europe only got the 900. Both markets were upset about this because humans always think the grass is greener on the other side. It took a few years, but Honda eventually satisfied the US by bringing the 900F over as well. The press loved it.
Cycle magazine called it “one of the best performance buys on the market.”
The 901cc inline four engine put out 89 horsepower and 56 pound-feet of torque, good for a top speed of about 135 miles per hour.
The seller of this example (VIN: JH2SC0105CM105782) is the second owner. The original owner purchased it new in 1985, riding it for two seasons and 1,500 miles. It was then stored until 2006 while he was raising his children and brought back to life, at which point he added several period modifications as described below. “The engine is original, never out or opened past the cam covers.” It is still in the original owner’s name.
The seller acquired it in April 2018. The odometer shows 11,179 miles.
Modifications:
Keihin CR31 smoothbore carbs with K&N air filters. The original airbox and Honda carburetors are included but the latter needs to be cleaned. They were removed at 1,500 miles.
Cobra stainless steel exhaust. Original Honda 4-into-2 chrome exhaust included in “pristine condition”, it was also removed at 1,500 miles.
Ohlins shocks.
Braided brake lines. The brake fluid was last flushed in 2019.
Aftermarket fork brace and Randakk’s spin-on oil filter adapter. Original oil filter housing and bolt included.
K&N Superbike bars from the 1980s.
Honda Sport Kit rearsets and mounting plates. Original mounting plates and foot pegs included.
150 mph speedometer installed in the instrument cluster.
CB1100F rectangular swingarm with spools. Original swingarm and chain guard included.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this CB900F is offered on a clean Minnesota title.
