This is the bike that started the CBR line in the US. It was quick enough to compete in 600cc racing, but user friendly enough to still enjoy on the street during the week. When it first came out, it was quite an improvement on the competition – Kawasaki’s GPZ600 (arguably the class leader at the time) was 28 pounds heavier and down 12 horsepower. This was the first 600cc sport bike capable of a sub-11 second quarter mile.
This example (VIN: JH2PC1905JM101986) initially came to us for service work – the bike had a bad motor (broken crankshaft on the right side of the engine) so the seller found a replacement on eBay and sent everything to us to do a motor swap.
The chassis has 25,543 miles on it.
Unfortunately, the replacement motor also needs work (looks to have sat outside for a long time and has corrosion in the valves and possibly a cylinder or two). The seller did not want to spend any more time digging into the replacement motor, so he has decided to let it all go as a no reserve project and move on to something else. We believe that you could swap the good head, cylinders, etc. onto the good bottom end and have a running motor.
