Additional photos of this Bonanza BC1000 are available here for your perusal.

The story of Bonanza starts with its founder, Michael O. Farrand. He formed Custom Kart in central California in 1958 and quickly moved operations to San Jose in 1960. The company was later renamed California Kart, Kart Industries, and then Bonanza Industries. As you can probably guess based on the names, Farrand got his start with high-performance go-karts. But by 1962, Mike wanted to get into mini bikes, and he wanted to keep Bonanza’s tradition of competition alive by making a small race bike.

The objective was to create a racing bike that would be more effective in the corners, capable of much higher speeds and have the capacity to transport an adult up the steepest incline.” The resulting prototype was highly successful, and it led to a model line that sold over 50,000 units.

The seller of this example (VIN: DM071) believes it’s a 1968 model, though he’s not 100% sure.

It’s a BC1000 model.

It was previously restored by Rick Doughty of Vintage Iron for the Primm MX Collection.

The seller acquired it fifteen years ago from Rick and has kept it in his home on display ever since.

He has never started it and the engine is dry with no oil or gas.

The seller states that the 2.5 hp Tecumseh engine has been de-restricted.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for a viewing), this Bonanza is offered on a Bill of Sale only.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

It appears that when bike was restored, the engine was taken out of the frame and then painted all over as everything (including hoses and the spark plug wire) but the mounting bolts have been painted.

The tires exhibit sidewall and tread cracking and should be replaced if the next owner would like to ride it. Our White Glove service can replace the tires and give the motor a once-over for the new owner if desired.

The seller is letting it go as he’s moved to a smaller home and needs the room.
