After the legendary 1994 RC45, Honda took a lengthy break from producing a limited-production special for the US market. In fact, it took two decades before Honda would try something similar – the Honda CBR1000RR SP.

Honda built 5,000 units to sell worldwide, only a few hundred of which came to America. For an additional $2,700, riders were rewarded with a tremendous amount of upgrades including 43mm Öhlins NIX30 forks (fully adjustable), Öhlins TTX shock (fully adjustable), Brembo front brakes with four-piston monobloc calipers, and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC tires.

The 2014 CBR engine was already improved from previous years with a revised cylinder head, but the SP version was blueprinted with “handpicked pistons and connecting rods.” This yielded a bump in power to 178 hp and 84 lb-ft of torque – Cycle World saw 152 hp at the rear wheel on their dyno.

Setting off all of the upgrades was the SP-specific livery in the HRC colors of red, white, and blue.

As the seller puts it, “the 2014 Honda CBR 1000RR SP (for the US market) was the last, fully analog CBR made by Honda. No ABS, no traction control, no wheelie control, just pure riding finesse. For the track day enthusiast, this bike will deliver in spades. For an opinion worth listening to, here’s Miguel Duhamel’s take on this Honda:

Duhamel sums it up nicely: “It’s not a bike that Honda just stamped SP on and have given a different paint job. There are definitely significant differences between the two. I love that little extra wink and smile that you get with the SP.”

This example is VIN: JH2SC5963EK300316.

The odometer shows 12,088 miles – the seller notes that the number may go up slightly before the auction ends.

Modifications:
Full Yoshimura R77 Race Exhaust with stainless steel headers and mid-pipe.

Power Commander V with mapping for the exhaust.

CRG short front brake lever (OEM factory brake lever included).

R&G rear license plate bracket using OEM turn signals.

Sato Racing swingarm spools.

This SP was serviced in the last 100 miles with:
Fresh oil and OEM Honda filter, fresh brake fluid, new Renthal rear sprocket, and a new RK 530 ZXW gold chain.

It also got a new Galfer wave rotor and pads on rear as well as new Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires (date codes late 2019 front and early 2020 rear)

The seller states that this bike “bike shows as new and rides even better.” He adds that it is “smooth as silk with power for days. It has fresh fluids, needs nothing, and is flawless.”

Currently located in Houston, Texas this CBR is offered on a clean blue Texas title with registration current through October 2021. Have any CBR1000RR stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
