Introduced in 2011, the “Evo” variant of Ducati’s 848 was something that Cycle World called a “midlife upgrade“, with “performance gains…intended to benefit racers and street riders alike.”

The engine got new throttle bodies with larger bores, revised cylinder heads, and a new profile of the piston crown, which significantly bumped the compression ratio from 12.0:1 to 13.2:1. This helped increase horsepower to 140 at the crank.

On top of those upgrades, Ducati offered a “Corse Special Edition” with hardware/software upgrades and an exclusive paint job.

Upgrades included an Ohlins rear shock, 330mm front rotors, DTC (Ducati Traction Control), and DQS (Ducati Quick Shifter).

The seller of this example (VIN: ZDM1XBMV1CB021020) is the second owner. He acquired it in June of last year from a nurse in Southern California “who used it to get to the hospital each day. The bike was not tracked and the gentleman sold it to me after having his first child.

During that time, the seller has covered approximately 1,700 miles. “All mileage accrued from driving to/from the Malibu canyons, ACH, and highway 33 in Ojai.” The odometer shows 43,803 miles.

Modifications:
Competition Werkes Exhaust $1,200

Ducati Levers $300, Rizoma Sport Grips $80, Speed Metal bar end sliders $40.

Integrated tail light $125, license plate relocator $100.

Front axle sliders $65

Rear axle sliders $55, new Bridgestone S22 tires with 400 miles on them.

T-Rex no cut frame sliders $130

LED High and Low beams $80

Tech Spec tank grips $70

Turn signal mirror block offs $120

Zero Gravity Corsa Windshield $100

Driven Racing Halo Gas Cap $150

Ducabike front and rear pegs $185

The sale includes a front stand and rear stand: $175 as well as several original parts: the windshield, mirrors, exhaust, second set of rider/passenger seats, seat cowl cover, pegs, fuel cap, and more.

It also includes two sets of keys and Ducati card.

Cosmetically, the seller notes minor scratches and chips commensurate with the mileage, as well as significant rub mark from the shifter.

He adds that there are no mechanical issues. “I’ve had the oil changed, new belts, and valves done with Motoservizio in Long Beach, California.”

A copy of the most recent major service (belts and valves on 6/19/20 at 41,842 miles) by Desmo Valve Service is available to view here.

When asked why he’s selling the bike, the owner said, “I’m currently an active duty Air Force member stationed here in El Segundo. I bought the bike for canyon riding and track riding, but with COVID I haven’t been able to go to a track due to the Air Force’s restrictions on us. My wife is also active duty and we were expecting orders to Virginia Beach and leaving this summer. The Air Force had slightly different plans for us and gave us orders to Tinker AFB just outside Oklahoma City. There’ll be nowhere to ride this beautiful bike other than to/from coffee downtown in which the only turns I’ll get to enjoy are the ones at intersections. My wife and I have two other bikes that are more commute and city oriented, so it’s time to sell the Evo.”

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this 848 Evo is offered on a clean California title with registration current through June 2021. Have any 848 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
