The “K” model of the ZX-7R, built between 91-92, was a homologation special built in limited numbers so Kawi could go racing in AMA Superbike.
For that extra dough you got a whole bunch of goodies, including 120 horsepower from a tweaked engine, close-ratio six speed transmission, Keihin 39mm flat slide carbs, aluminum (versus steel) tank, lighter subframe with a solo seat/fiberglass tail, and fully adjustable suspension with a remote reservoir rear shock.
The extra power came from a higher redline (+500rpm), higher compression, and larger cams, plus the bike weighed 10 pounds less. It may look rather similar to the standard J model ZX-7, but it was happier on the track than the street thanks to the above changes and a very tall first gear. In a 1992 test, Performance Bikes magazine got 110 horsepower at the rear wheel (Kawasaki claimed 120 at the crank) and hit 158.5 miles per hour – all while returning 41 average miles per gallon.
Fun fact: you can tell if the fairings are proper K model panels when you see the supplemental hole on the right side – that’s to adjust the flatslides. Regular J models had CV carbs and no adjustment hole.

This 1992 ZX750 K1 was purchased in October of 2020 from Iconic Motorbikes, upon which time I elected to have their white glove department perform some work. At that time, a few small paint flaws in the rear tail were repaired, a new fuel cap was installed, and rear sets were polished.” Specifically, Iconic rebuilt the carbs, bled the front brakes, cleaned/adjusted the chain, refinished the triple clamp, installed new OEM mirrors, and installed new fork seals.
“I received delivery of the bike mid-December of 2020, at which time it was pushed from the delivery van to my garage, placed on a stand, and put under a cover. It has not been touched whatsoever since these new photos were taken. It is 100% stock, with zero modifications and 3,742 miles. I have not ridden it since acquiring it.
I also elected to have Iconic Motorbikes drain the fuel and disconnect the battery, it was originally planned that this bike was going to be on display in my office. Again, it has not been touched since delivery, however I do have videos of it running in the Iconic Motorbikes shop prior to shipment to my home.
“There are a few light scratches in the gray, underneath the tank mount towards the front, quite a common occurrence with these 1990’s Kawasaki frames/swingarms. There also is some blemishing just behind the front wheel, from road dirt/rock chips. There is a very small blemish on the rear tail. These photos represent all of the minor cosmetic issues. Overall, this is a beautiful bike with very vibrant paint. This bike is absolutely beautiful, however I do not want to misrepresent any potential buyers or bidders.
This bike needs zero, other than a new home. I’m exploring some new toys, so I just need to make some room.
“It currently has a clean Indiana title, ready for transfer.” The seller is in Las Vegas – he notes that “the DMV in Nevada is backed up for roughly 4-5 months, so I have not had an opportunity to put it in my name as of yet.”
