All-new for 2002 (in Europe, 2003 in the US), Honda’s ST1300 was a well-received continuation of the ST1100 that debuted back in 1990. Reviewers loved the power, transmission, brakes, comfort, and features – Rider magazine concluded their review with, “Honda’s new ST1300 is a marvel of precision. It’s in the way the power rolls on, the way it shifts, its fine suspension, its brakes. It insulates from the road without being isolating. The ST1300 is a more-than worthy successor to the ST1100, and raises the bar for all sport tourers once again. We can’t say if this velvet hammer will last another dozen years, but we can say that the chances look very good indeed.”
The only flaws journalists noted were said to be the lack of an optional trunk and a mushy suspension – both of which have been addressed with this example (VIN: JH2SC51463M100638).
Per the seller, “this is a three-owner bike originally sold new by Big Valley Honda in Reno, Nevada which spent the majority of its life in northern Nevada. A friend of mine bought it from the original owner, an older gentlemen who used it for a commute from Carson City to Reno and who put the majority of the miles on it. My friend purchased the bike on my urging in 2015 and I bought it from him in 2017. I used the bike for freeway commuting and a couple Sierra touring trips, and at just over 100k miles it is just broken in. Nearly every service record, warranty or recall record is on file at BVH in Reno who did all of the service on the bike.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 7k miles. The odometer shows 107,204 miles.
Modifications:
“In late 2019 I came upon a spare set of OEM ST1300 bodywork so I had the bodywork custom painted in a take on the classic Honda tricolor scheme of the RC30 but retaining the original 2003 Honda silver color. The bike was never crashed, dropped, or otherwise damaged. The original bodywork had the usual marks and chips from Nevada highway riding and the original headlight was severely fogged from the sun.”
Front forks completely disassembled and cleaned, new Ohlins .95 springs, Ohlins 5w fluid and new OEM Honda seals. Stock valving front and rear. Rear shock rebuilt by Race Tech with a RT spring for 190-200lb rider.
Recovered seat with heated seat element installed
Taller Cee Bailey’s windshield.
“When I had the bodywork off for paint I completely went through the bike in late 2019. Since then it has had less than 1,500 miles on the following work:”
New Pilot Road 4 GT’s
New OEM headlight to replace fogged one.
Front and rear brake fluid flush including the SMC and ABS, all new synthetic fluid, and new OEM Nissin brake pads.
Clean and synced throttle bodies, clutch fluid flushed, replaced, and bled, coolant drained and refilled. New battery and tender lead installed, new OEM Honda 10w-40 synthetic oil and OEM filter, OEM valve cover gaskets and valve check (in spec), new OEM NGK spark plugs.
Complete service on rear drive/flange bearings with all new OEM Honda bearings, o-ring and the correct moly grease (this is a must do service item on ST1300’s).
All new OEM Honda heated grips and aux wiring harness.
“The bike runs and rides great and it handles very good now that suspension is fresh and sorted (they come undersprung from Honda) all lights switches work as they should. Honda never updated the ST1300 after it debuted in 2003, and they probably figured they had built as good of a large sport touring bike as anyone would ever want. It has a 360 degree V4 with incredibly smooth power delivery, excellent fueling and a very slick 5 speed trans. The bike is all day comfortable and with well over 7 gallons in its two tanks it has incredibly long range! Easy to read gauges, heated grips, and electrically adjustable windscreen along with an adjustable height seat make it great for long trips but it also handles way better than you would think on your favorite twisty roads. Everyone who has ridden this bike has walked away impressed and with a smile. All this with incredible Honda build quality and there are many ST1300’s out there with well over 200k miles. The engine is under-stressed and like most Honda’s nearly indestructible!”
Currently located in Rolling Hills Estates, California, this Honda is offered on a clean Montana title.
