Kawasaki introduced the Ninja ZX-10R in 2004 and it was instantly successful – it immediately won Masterbike as well as Cycle World’s Best Superbike award. As Bennett’s summed it up, “wild, often unpredictable and packing a serious punch, the Ninja was a trademark Kawasaki sportsbike that split opinions. Some loved its outrageously aggressive character, others were downright scared of it!

This example is VIN: JKAZXCC144A010436.

It was bought new in September 2004 at Cycle Works in Edmonton, Alberta. The seller acquired it eight years ago from a private party in Calgary, Alberta and has covered roughly 6,000 miles on it since. The odometer shows 22,911 kilometers (14,236 miles).

The previous owner sold it as “his insurance was about $1,000 a month. Unfortunately, it sat outside uncovered for a period of time and the paint had faded as the top half was lighter then the bottom half. It’s been repainted well, and I’ve supplied pictures of the insides of the side panels to show that there’s no damage and that it was originally orange.”

You can see some fade on the swingarm spools too, but those didn’t bother me so I left those.”

I also had to replace some of the hand controls as they were faded as well. There are some small marks on the windscreen from a brake bleed where the fluid spat up unnoticed and there are two small scratches on the back side of the frame.

When I first got the bike it had approximately 13,000 kilometers or 8,000 miles. I rode it for a bit and though I am a tech by trade I was unable to do the work myself as I was living in a condo.” The seller had Redline Motorsports in Calgary, Alberta adjust the valves, sync the throttle bodies, flash the ECU, flush the brake fluid, and install spark plugs as well as new Dunlop Qualifier Q3 tires. The service was performed in March 2016 and a copy of the receipt is included in the sale. Tire date codes are 4015 and 4115.

I wanted them to do a dyno run before and after the valve adjustment just to see how much of a difference it made, then I had another dyno run after the ECU flash of course. The mileage at this time was 18,600klm or 11,000 miles.”

After Valve Adjustment

After ECU Flash.

Since then I have replaced the fork seals, put another set of spark plugs in, changed the gearing (+2 rear), and added a speedo healer to keep the mileage accurate.”

Modifications to the bike include a full Akrapovic exhaust, smog block-off plates, Timing Retard Eliminator, and aftermarket front turn signals. Due to that it flashes a little faster then normal but I liked that as cars definitely notice, so I didn’t bother replacing the relay.”
4/16/21 Update: The seller was informed that the Akrapovic exhaust is likely a Hindle full system.

“I had a set of shorty levers and rear sets on it the whole time I owned it so the factory rear sets are in great condition. The rubber on the shifter was worn so I recently replaced that, flushed the brake fluid again, and changed the oil. I also replaced the chain due to time, not because it was worn out. The sprockets are still in very good condition. The only thing it may need is a manual cam chain tensioner as it’s getting to be in that mileage range for time of replacement.”

The seller says that there are no known mechanical issues. The sale includes the passenger seat, tool kit, and one key. It does not include the original manual.

This bike weighs as much as a 636 of the same year and will keep up with the new bikes no problem. It’s a powerhouse. It’s also my mom’s favorite bike – no, my Mom did not own this bike, it was just her favorite color out of the group I had!
