This Kawasaki KZ1000J is VIN: JKAKZGJ19BA003655, Engine #: KZT00JE011982.
The seller found this 6 or 7 years ago in the back of a Kawasaki dealership. “It had been sitting outside of an apartment since 1992-1993. The owner brought it to the dealership to restore it with $3,000, and the dealer said it would cost more than that just to make it a rider.”
He then built it up as a a tribute to the KZ1000R Eddie Lawson Replica, with several Kawasaki OEM parts and upgrades.
The odometer shows 36,262 miles, however the dash was replaced after the odometer stopped functioning. It took the seller 2.5 years to track down a UK-market speedometer which goes up to 160 miles per hour (the stock goes up to 85). True mileage is estimated to be roughly 30,000.
In addition to the 160 mph speedometer, this KZ features the following modifications:
Kerker race headers and exhaust.
Kawasaki GPz1100 oil cooler.
Kawasaki GPz1100 foot controls.
Kawasaki GPz1100 fairing.
Kawasaki KZ1000R ELR fuel tank.
Kawasaki KZ1000R ELR seat.
ZRX1200 shocks rebuilt by Race Tech.
Progressive fork springs.
Mikuni flat slide carbs (the seller notes that they are 80% dialed in)
Aftermarket fork brace (the seller believe it’s a Daytona unit).
Battery tender lead.
Recent new parts include Dyna ignition coils, igniter box, and voltage regulator. The oil and filter will be changed before the auction ends, as well.
The seller recently had a valve job done but he notes that it could use some rings as there’s a little blow-by. He adds that “it deserves a 1,100cc kit but if I do that I’m going to want to keep it!” He’s letting this go to make some space as he’s also working on a KZ1000 hot rod project.
He notes that the carbs need to be dialed in and synced and the turn signal relay should be cleaned, adding that “to be awesome, it should get fresh GPz1100 cylinders, pistons, and rings.” The sale includes the stock carbs and GPz1100 cylinders.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The tire date codes are 0413 and 1917.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Kawasaki is offered on a clean California title with registration current through September 2021.
