Built between 1994 and 2002, the 748 was Ducati’s smaller sibling to the 916. Bennetts’ modern-classic review suggests that’s not a bad thing: “Ducati’s 916 deserves all its iconic status and then some. But for many people who were lucky enough to ride both, the smaller 748 was the better bike to ride.”
For 2000, Ducati added a base model to the lineup. Called the E, it was available as a monoposto or biposto and it featured a gold frame with matching 3-spoke wheels, Showa forks, and a Sachs/Boge shock.
The E model is what provided the platform for this example (VIN: ZDM1SB3R5YB012413), which has been turned into a track bike.
The odometer shows 8,831 miles.
The seller works for American Honda and is letting this bike go to make some room for his move from Los Angeles to their new office in Georgia. “I’m coming to terms that I’m probably need to move a couple bikes out of the garage…I’d love for [the 748] to go to a home where it will get used!”
Per the seller, “the previous owner bought the bike in 2002 and kept records of service work performed on it, including valve adjustment and new rocker arms at 8,500 miles. I bought the bike from him in Arizona in 2006 with the intention of using it for track days, but shortly after ended up having to move for work. I held on to it with the intention of eventually getting it back out to the track, but life got in the way and after a few more moves I just didn’t have the time to get it out.”
Modifications:
Ducati Performance carbon fiber tank. The liner has started to peel and our usual vendor (GTL) has told us that they cannot fix this one.
Carbon fiber air box, carbon fiber front fender, carbon fiber side covers.
Fast by Ferracci chip and carbon fiber Arrow slip-on exhaust.
Ducati Performance GP shift (stock setup included), AFAM quick change carrier/sprockets, and Evoluzione clutch slave cylinder.
Yoyodyne preload adjusters.
SBS carbon brake pads.
Frame sliders.
The sale includes a “bunch of stock parts including the windscreen, sprockets/carrier, brake pads, chain, spare radiator, headlight/taillight, Pit Bull rear stand, and more.”
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us install new timing belts and spark plugs. He also had us change the oil/filter and clean the fuel injectors. The bike runs great, but we did not run it for long in the above video due to the tank liner issue.

The tire date codes are 1806 and 4705.
