Description
Additional photos of this Ducati Panigale race bike are available here for your perusal.
Ducati unveiled the current generation of the Panigale at the 2014 Milan Motorcycle Show – it was named the 1299 after the larger 1,285cc v-twin motor equipped for street purposes. But Ducati kept the 1,198cc engine in the homologation-spec “R” model due to WSBK regulations. Thanks to a tungsten-balanced crankshaft, titanium valves, titanium connecting rods, and two-ring pistons, the smaller R engine produced the same 2015 horsepower as the “1299”.
This Panigale R is VIN: ZDM14BVW0GB004411.
It was built to go racing by Richie Alexander of RideHVMC and his crew led by Brian Sharp for the RideHVMC Freeman Racing Ducati Team. It was originally campaigned by Corey Alexander during the 2016 MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 season.
Iconic purchased it in 2019 to go racing with – a big moment for us a company. Richie had two race bikes – this was his A machine and the original engine had an issue so it was replaced with one that had roughly 200 miles and then prepped by Steve Saucier at the time of our purchase. Our good friend Steve Rapp agreed to pilot for us, so we joined him a Ducati Revs event at New York Safety Track for some practice laps in preparation for a race at Barber Motorsports Park. Based on that experience, RideHVMC changed the front fork springs and added an IMA thumb brake per Rapp’s request.
We had it painted by Jason LeCavalier of Artistimo Customs.
Jason brought the bodywork out to Barber Motorsports Park to meet us and RideHVMC so that Rapp could compete in the 3rd annual Barber Cup Pro Challenge against Scott Russell, Taylor Knapp, Geoff May, Nate Kern, and several other top riders.
Rapp was only able to run one practice session due to rain. After that session, he asked us to add a seat pad and change the springs again.
Rapp ended up on the podium, placing third after Geoff May and Scott Russell. It was wonderful to see – as Adam said, “this bike was a dream come true for me personally…having a legend like Steve Rapp ride against one of my idols growing up, Scott Russell!” It’s also the August bike in our 2021 Calendar!
After Barber, we took the bike out one last time for our track day at Chuckwalla.
It’s currently the resident bike on our lean machine!
The odometer has been zero’d out, however the trip meters both show 274.9 miles.
Modifications:
Ohlins forks with K-Tech internals, K-Tech shocks.
Akrapovic exhaust. Per Richie, this is one of less than 10 units that were custom built – which is why the headers are not completely flush with the carbon heat guard below the seat.
Pierobon gas tank, Stompgrip tank grips.
Brembo billet master cylinder, aftermarket grips, and brake lever guard.
The sale includes a spare seat (not pictured).
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Ducati is offered on a Bill of Sale only.
In Adam’s words, “Every time I see her, every time I start her, every time I smell the exhaust…I think of that weekend at Barber.” Have any questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
