In 2001, Suzuki released the third generation of the GSX-R600 – the big news was the addition of fuel injection, which helped bump horsepower up to 115 at 13,000 rpm. In addition, Suzuki’s engineers were able to shave 25 pounds of weigh from the previous generation. It was a much needed update – MCN said, “As other sports 600s were creeping ahead, Suzuki looked as if it would be left for dead. And then they came up with this Suzuki GSX-R600. Slimmed down, firmed up and with power and torque figures to raise front wheels as well as eyebrows, the new Suzuki GSX-R600 was an absolute storm. New fuel injection was super smooth, even low down. This Suzuki GSX-R600 is a masterpiece.”
For the 2002 model year only, Suzuki released the “GSX-R600M”, a special version which commemorated the Suzuki RGV-500 race bike that Kenny Roberts Jr. won the 500cc World Championship with in 2000. Mechanically, the bike was the same as the the base GSX-R600.
Manufactured in September 2001, this example is VIN: JS1GN7BA822105322.
Per the seller, “it has a very interesting story which is one of the aspects that makes this bike attractive for any collection. This bike is still titled in the original owners name and is in incredible original low mileage condition. This was his first brand new bike. He ordered the bike from a local dealer in Connecticut, RER Motorsports. They were lucky to get one allocated to them being a relatively small dealer. After putting on 4,300 miles, the owner dropped the bike in his driveway, scratching the right side plastic and decal.”
“He contacted his insurance company who told him that the bike must be totaled due to the fact that the correct Movistar decals were not available separately from purchasing a whole bike. At that time, they were not available from the aftermarket either. There were no Movistar bikes available on the new or used market so the owner could not replace the bike. He settled with the insurance company and bought the bike back from them. He ended up not riding the bike anymore and just enjoyed looking at it while in his climate controlled setting. This bike has no issues other than the scratches as shown in the pics..”
The seller acquired it two years ago from a private party in Connecticut – he’s had it on display since and has not ridden it. He states that odometer shows 4,318 miles. “The LED display has a black spot that appears and disappears when it want to. It is over the first digit of the miles. Sometimes as the photos show, the 4 (first digit) is not completely visible but I can assure you that it is there.”
The sole modification is a tank protector.
The seller states that there are no mechanical issues.
The sale includes the passenger seat.
Currently located in Easton, Connecticut, this Suzuki is offered on a salvage Connecticut title. The seller is letting it go to make room for an addition to his car collection. Have any GSX-R600 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
