Unveiled in 2001 at the Bologna Motor Show, the Tuono (Italian for “thunder“) was introduced as a naked sibling to the impressive RSV Mille. Everyone knows the Tuono Factory now – it’s a constant winner of standard bike comparisons – but the precedent for a top-level Tuono was introduced to the world via a very limited-production (we’ve heard estimated between 200 and 220) called the Tuono R Limited or the Tuono Racing.
The stock Tuono was impressive in its own way, but the only-for-2003 Tuono Racing took it to the next level with high-end components including OZ wheels, Brembo radial calipers, and Ohlins suspension (forks, steering damper, and shock).
All of the bodywork (minus the tank) was carbon fiber.
According to this review on Motorcyclist, just 50 made it to the United States.

The seller acquired it six years ago from a friend. Since then he’s covered approximately 4,000 miles. The odometer shows 15,492 miles.
Recent Maintenance:
“The last major service done by Amauri Nunez at 10,300 miles. Included fork seals, chain and sprockets. Have invoice. Last minor service at 13,250 miles, done by me. Have invoice for various parts. Tires are Michelin Pilot Road with approx. 500 miles on them.” The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues and that it “runs great.”
Modifications:
“Adjustable footpegs that are slightly lower than stock. This so my knees would fit the tank better. Original pegs come with the bike.”
“The original owner installed a Power Commander, and spent a lot of time dyno tuning. The bike runs really well, throttle response is very crisp. The original Tuono Racing EEPROM comes with the bike.”
“It has an Arrow exhaust which sounds fantastic.”
“I’ve done the ‘clutch oil jet modification’ to improve clutch.”
“I installed genuine Brembo ‘racing’ brake pads front and rear, which I had shipped from Italy. When I was racing [a Ducati], I found that Brembo pads were without question the best, and we tried quite a few! I now install Brembo pads on all my bikes wherever possible. Original pads come with the bike and are labelled as to where they go.”
“The airbox has the EVO kit, Edwards Replica rubber intake boot, and filter base ring (installed by Amauri). Stock parts come with the bike.”
“There are various spare parts with the bike as shown in the photos, including the full ‘kit’ race exhaust system.”
Cosmetic Blemishes:
“The bike is in exceptional condition, see photos. There are a couple of very minor flaws that I’ve photographed. These were there when I bought the bike, and I believe relate to when the forks were removed for service.”
