Barely seen outside of Italy, Motom focused on four-stroke small-displacement mopeds and motorcycles. The company was founded in ’47 and kept making bikes until ’71. Though it’s a fairly obscure name now, Motom was the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in Italy in the mid 1950s.
The company was also well-known for their use of pressed-steel spine frames and distinctive styling. The 48cc engine was good for 2 horsepower.
Information on Motom can be hard to find outside of Italy, and many of their models shared a similar aesthetic. The series of “48” bikes were produced for about twenty years, and over 500,000 were built. We believe that this is either a 48 C or 48 D model.
This example is engine #: L274328, frame #: 83412. It is one of over thirty motorcycles to come to Iconic Motorbikes from the Alan Wilzig collection.

Modifications:
We believe this Motom is mechanically stock, though it was repainted at some point in the past.
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Pirelli and CEAT tires that have aged out.
