In 1967, Yamaha introduced the YR series of bikes (also known as the “Grand Prix”) with the YR1. It was their first 350cc motorcycle, as well as their first engine to use aluminum cylinders with cast iron sleeves as well as their first engine to use a horizontally split crank case.
The next year, Yamaha updated the model with the YR2, which gave the parallel twin engine a new 5-port oil scavenging system – one of several small changes which helped boost claimed horsepower up to 36 horsepower (enough for 102 miles per hour).
Other changes included a stiffer frame, different seat cover material, and updated styling with a two-tone tank.

The seller acquired it 4-5 years ago from a friend who was planning on restoring it, however he moved and had to leave the bike behind. The current owner also planned on restoring it but has realized he’s never going to get around to it so he wants to find it a new home. He has never tried to run it, but he was told by the previous owner that it may need a clutch.
