Description
Additional photos of this Bimota SB4 are available here for your perusal.
The SB4 was Bimota’s fourth build around a Suzuki engine – hence the S and the 4 in the model name.
It featured the 1,075cc DOHC engine from Suzuki’s Katana 1100, which was good for 112 horsepower at 8,750 RPM and a 153 mph top speed.
The frame was machined from solid billed aluminum, and it is claimed to be the first time a CNC-built frame was used in a production motorcycle. Just 272 Bimota SB4s were built, between 1983 and 1984.
This example is VIN: SB400158, Engine #: GS110X157446. This is one of over thirty motorcycles from the Alan Wilzig collection that we are auctioning off. Alan acquired this bike in November of 2002 and has had it on display in his collection ever since.
The odometer shows 3,227 kilometers (2,005 miles).
A wonderful Iconic client called us to let us know some history he had on this machine – he said that it originated in South Africa, then went to a collector in Northern California, then to Malcolm Forbes (who also owned the SB3 we recently sold), then to a private collector in Detroit, then to a private collector in Tennessee, and then to Alan.
In preparation for the listing, Alan asked us to make it a runner – he had had us install a new battery, install a new chain, change the engine oil/filter, rebuild the front and rear master cylinders, rebuild the front and rear calipers, remove foam from the inside of the tank, clean/sync the carbs, and give the bike a detail. Daniel did the work, he notes that the brake pads are at 60%/40% front and rear and that the tires need to be replaced if the next owner wants to ride this Bimota.
It is riding on Pirelli tires which have aged out.
