Description

Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

Honda’s first motorcycle was built in 1949, and upon seeing the first one ridden by one his employees, founder Soichiro Honda said, “it’s like a dream.” This first creation was powered by a 98cc two-stroke motor – it was officially called the Model D, but everyone started calling it the Dream. Two years later, Honda built their first four-stroke (the 146cc Dream E). Four years beyond that (1955), Honda went even bigger with the 250cc Dream SA. It was the first bike Honda built that made more than 10 horsepower.

The Dream SA was vital to Honda’s initial success in racing – the model gave Honda its first win at the Mount Fuji Hill Climb. In addition, Honda themselves note in this history page impressed at the All Japan Motorcycle Endurance Road Race at Mount Asama Volcano with “specially tuned machines based on the 250 cc Dream SA in three classes, the 250 cc, 350 cc, and 500 cc. These placed second, first, and first, respectively.”

According to this website (we do not know the person making the claim), this is “one of three known outside of Japan.”

This example is VIN: SA5627156, Engine #: SA-24091. The seller acquired it a year ago from the noted motorcycle collector who founded CMSNL.

The odometer shows 5,862 kilometers (3,642 miles).

Per the seller, this is a “very rare and early piece of Honda history. This bike was imported from Japan long time ago and got an AAA+ restoration by the CMSNL restoration team. The bike came out of the personal collection of M. Buttinger, the founder of CMSNL, and one of the biggest Honda collectors over the world. This is a museum quality piece of rare Honda history ready to find his new owner. Must have and once in a life time for every Honda collector. It has only been started once after the restoration and was then always kept in a heated collection room.” It will need a minor recommissioning if the next owner would like to ride it.

Modifications:
The seller states that this bike is completely stock.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller states that there are no cosmetic blemishes.
