“Gorilla in a Tuxedo.” That’s how Motorcycle.com described the K1200R, a naked version of BMW’s K1200S sportbike. It was big, fast, and a bit quirky – it was also the most powerful production naked bike available when it was released. As MCN put it, “The BMW K1200R is another from the latest-generation Beemers that blow away the firm’s reputation for dull motorcycles. A 170mph naked motorcycle with looks that fuse sci-fi and retro with plenty of brawn.”
Said brawn came from a 1,157cc inline-4 that produces 163 horsepower and 94 lb-ft of torque. Despite the impressive power, optional features like ABS, electronic suspension, heated grips, luggage, and windshields meant you can enjoy it all day as a sport-tourer as well.
This example is VIN: WB10594088ZN56464. The seller is the original owner, he purchased it in late 2008 from MAX BMW Motorcycles in Brunswick, New York.
The odometer shows 27,591 miles. “It’s been ridden infrequently (1,758 miles since March 7th, 2020).”
Per the seller, this is one of just fourteen “Apple Green” K1200Rs that BMW imported to the United States. He had it sourced from South Sound BMW via a dealer transfer.
In 2009, the seller ran this K12R in the 2009 BUB Bonneville Speed Trials “Run Whatcha Brung” Class, hitting 153.931 miles per hour.
Maintenance:
“Full documentation at MAX BMW. It was regularly maintained and always garaged.” The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues, however there is “one problem with the bike – when air temps are high, the rearview mirror glass gaskets shrink, and the mirrors rattle. These were replaced under warranty, but it’s a design flaw, so new/aftermarket mirrors can be considered.”
The service light on the dash is on. “I think it may be because the last service was in March 2020, or because I have had the battery out to charge it a number of times..” The seller provided photos of his most recent service record:
Modifications:
“Numbers were required to race at Bonneville. My quick solution was colored electrical tape. So they should come right off the body panel if someone wants them removed.”
BMW prototype carbon fiber Power Cup handguards. The seller provides an email from Mac McMath, who was BMW’s Manager of Sales Operations at the time and “owner of the only BMW K1200R Power Cup in America.” Mac had some extras that he offered to the seller.
Remus exhaust. The sale includes the original exhaust “in new condition.”

Custom license plate holder.
Factory optional center stand.
Factory optional luggage shelf.
“This motorcycle was custom ordered without ABS.”
Not pictured is a “Flow-thru air filter.”
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes “wear marks on luggage shelf, areas of road wear on the bottom of the radiator cover.”
It is riding on Michelin Road 5 GT tires from 2018.
The sale includes two keys and the owner’s manual.
Currently located in Rhinebeck, New York, this BMW is offered on a clean New York title with registration current through March 2023.
