Though the model debuted in 1985, Suzuki’s legendary Gixxer line did not make its way to the US until 1986. The changes were minor – better headlights, a revised belly pan, and 25mm longer swingarm, but Americans were probably too busy drooling over the first true street-legal race replica sold in this market to notice.

Those aren’t just our words – Suzuki specifically marketed the Gixxer as a “racebike for the street” and backed it up with a design that featured a 749cc inline-four motor fed by 31mm Mikuni carbs and Suzuki’s Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber with 16 valve heads. It put down 80 horsepower at the rear wheel (106 at the crank) through a six-speed transmission, and impressively the engine weighed 30 pounds less than the previous GS750 motor (even though that was air-cooled).

Weight savings were not just limited to the motor. The whole bike weighed just 388 pounds dry, which was a revelation at the time. The GSX-R750 inspired copycats from the other Japanese manufacturers and impressively, it’s still in production today (though it hasn’t seen significant changes since 2011).

Manufactured in February of 1986, this example is VIN: JS1GR75A9G2106518. The seller acquired it in November 2016 from a private party.

During his ownership, the seller has covered less than 10 miles. The odometer shows 6,843 miles. 11-24 Update: The title report shows 44,000 miles in 2,000. True mileage is unknown.

The seller acquired this and several other motorcycles with the intent of exporting them to a Caribbean island to create a motorcycle museum. “Those plans were cancelled after Hurricane Dorian hit the Caribbean in 2019. This was one of the first we purchased for the project. It is one of our favorite pieces for the museum project, and displays absolutely beautifully. It is all original and extremely clean. There are no cracks or dents we could find, and the original fairing and fuel tank are as close to new we saw in this model and year examples.11-24 Update: based on feedback in the comments and additional photos he took (please see the top of the listing), the seller believes that this bike has been restored.

Maintenance:
Complete carburetor rebuild in July 2020, with new spark plugs. New YUASA battery and oil change was done this week. Have invoices from the maintenance, and various documents like original brochures.

The alternator was checked while the carburetor was rebuilt. We were told the alternator was charging well, and decided to purchase a used OEM alternator and gasket. We did not replace the alternator as we didn’t know if the next owner would like to rebuild the current one to keep originality. The used spare alternator is included and gasket. The horn and blinkers do not currently work. However the starter, headlights and brake light all work.”

Modifications:
Per the seller, this Suzuki is stock.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes:
– Tear on the left side of the rear of the seat. Very small stain in the same area of the seat.

– Tear on the right side of the rear of the seat.

– The heat shield adhesive on the bottom of the fuel tank is beginning to separate.

– Scratches on the right bar end.

– Small dent on the muffler can.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Shinko Tour Master (front) and Shinko Podium (rear) tires.

The sale includes three original Suzuki keys included and a Suzuki Racing motorcycle cover.
