The seller has provided his own description on this bike, so we’ll let him take it from here: “Released in 2018 to celebrate the emergence of the new V4 as the racing platform of choice for Ducati, the Speciale features Ducati’s Desmosedici Stradale 90-degree V4 motor putting out 214hp with the stock exhaust and 226hp with the fitted Akrapovic exhaust system. With fully adjustable, electronically controlled Ohlins suspension front and rear along with radially mounted Brembo Monobloc Stylema calipers coupled with Bosch’s Cornering ABS EVO system, the bike handles and stops as well as it goes.”
“The Speciale offered several additional features above and beyond the S model released at the same time. In addition to the power boost available from the Akrapovic exhaust system, it also sheds 6kg from the total bike weight. Ducati also replaced most of the plastic guards and fenders on the standard models with carbon fiber, included forged aluminum Marchesini wheels, and a fully magnesium subframe to bring the Speciale in at a total curb weight 10kg less than the S model.”
“The Speciale is a beautiful, brutish beast. The manual is a legitimate novel and is actually useful given the number of parameters that can be adjusted on the bike. Between traction control, wheelie control, slide control, engine braking levels, ABS, suspension dampening, and quickshifter options, there are 8,748 different combinations of settings you can enter. I have generally left it in Sport mode as that provides enough electronic control to keep me out of trouble on the street while turning down the wheelie control just enough that I can feel super cool doing power wheelies for a quarter-mile every time I get on the freeway. The exhaust is quite throaty. I had to sign a waiver when I had it installed prior to taking delivery of the bike wherein I acknowledged that it was likely to scare small children and old people, but at normal cruising speeds it is not obnoxiously loud. That changes when you go full throttle, especially if you find yourself lining up against something like a Porsche GT3 and need to use the launch control to win 2 out of 3 drags down an onramp. At full throttle, the Speciale effectively rips a new hole in reality and punches you straight through it, accelerating so hard that your eyeballs get compressed in their sockets and your vision blurs to a fine point of light at the end of a long tunnel.”
“I have set the bike up with a GP shift pattern and I recommend leaving it in that alignment as the G-forces under launch would likely break your toe if you tried to slip it under the shift lever and lift. The quickshifter is absolutely seamless on upshifts, but even more aurally pleasing on downshifts, matching revs and spitting blue flames out the exhaust with a burble like a dragon belching.”
“Aesthetically, the tricolore paint is lovely, and this is the final ‘special’ version of the V4 that didn’t come with the carbon fiber pig ear winglets that are coming on every GP replica now so if you aren’t a fan of those, the Speciale is the bike for you. The Alcantara leather seat is perhaps the most bougie part on the entire bike, but it’s comfortable for the 100 miles you can ride before you need to stop for fuel.”
This example (VIN: ZDMDAGNW9JB002618) is number 212 of 1,500. The seller is the original owner – he purchased it new from Munroe Motors in San Francisco, California in December of 2018. The seller is letting it go as “I am old and none of my friends ride sportbikes on the street. I have a Honda RS250 for races/track days for when I want to go fast and an Africa Twin for when I want to go far, so the Speciale largely sits in the garage under the cover.”
The odometer shows 3,118 miles.
Maintenance:
“All warranty repairs and services have been done at Munroe.”
Modifications:
“All of the extra parts that came with the Speciale from Ducati have been installed. The only additional change was the removal of the rear fender and installation of the fender eliminator kit, also done at Munroe before I picked up the bike.”
Extras:
“Other included bits from Ducati are the Rizoma fuel cap, fully adjustable rear-sets, custom bike cover, Alcantra leather seat, and most especially, the beautiful tricolore paint scheme offered only on the Speciale. The bike also comes with all of the stock parts; 359 page owners manual, 2 sets of keys including the Rizoma fobs, standard gas cap if you plan on riding it anyplace where you’d worry about someone syphoning your fuel, the stock lower bodywork that is replaced when you install the exhaust system, and the mirror blanks to remove the mirrors for track days.”
“Beyond the Ducati provided extras, this bike also comes with the pictured Pitbull rear stand and a second set of brand new Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC1 tires. All warranty recall work (it is a Ducati) and service has been done by Munroe Motors in San Francisco.”
Cosmetic Blemishes:
“The bike is in perfect condition other than a small black smudge on the tank. I came out of a restaurant a few weeks ago to find an ‘influencer’ sitting on the bike taking selfies and didn’t notice until the next day that he’d left a mark on the tank. It is not a scratch, but I haven’t had a chance to get the bike detailed since to get it off.”
Currently located in Orinda, California, this Ducati is offered on a clean Cailfornia title with registration current through December 2023.
