Donning the now famous moniker “Shovelhead” due to the iconic (and instantly recognizable) design of its valve covers, the FLH first entered production in 1941. As early as 1965, the FLH came with electric start — a welcome upgrade amongst those looking to do more serious long-distance trips aboard their Harleys.

The biggest changes to the FLH came in 1966. Along with a newly-designed combustion chamber and an aluminum head, Harley-Davidson also gave the model a set of rocker arms that connected to the head itself. The updated FLH made a hearty 60hp and a thumping exhaust note that proved wildly popular amongst those brandishing the bar and shield. With additions such as a powerful front disc brake and a alternator housed where the old, out-dated generator had once been, the FLH was on the bleeding-edge of technology for cruisers that were meant to chew up miles of road.

As RideApart found in its vintage review of the FLH Duo-Glide, “there is something about winding the gears out on an old Harley that just puts a smile on your face. I often compare it to driving a 60s muscle car, which, while slower than most modern sports cars, just feels more powerful.”

This example is VIN: 2A20965H6. The seller purchased the bike five years ago from Heaven Cycle in Miami, Florida.

During his ownership, the seller has covered “a couple of thousand miles.” True mileage is unknown.

Maintenance:
The seller reports that he has changed the “oil, the spark plugs, and the clutch.”

Modifications:
Aftermarket handlebars.

S&S Super E Carb, aftermarket ignition cover.

Le Pera seat, lowering rear shocks.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop D404 tires with date codes of 3211 and 1912.

Currently located in Miami, Florida (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Harley-Davidson is offered on a clean Florida title. Have any FLH stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
