First arriving to the scene as a concept motorcycle at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2014, Kawasaki inadvertently reignited the flames of the decades past ‘Speed Wars’ with the introduction of the H2, a supercharged inline-four motorcycle that could reach a claimed top speed of 201 miles-per-hour (although most will say this is restricted). Concept turned into reality in early 2015 with the production of the H2R beginning just a year after the initial unveiling, boasting figures that most consumers thought were not plausible. Alongside the H2 came it’s closed-course counterpart – the H2R. The H2R was built to be the culmination of R&D that had gone into the original H2 – a supercharged street-legal missile – with even more bells and whistles.
The H2R saw a bump in power, having roughly 310 horsepower (326 horsepower with the air-induction in use) and roughly 100 lb.-ft. of torque at 10,500 RPM. Alongside the increased performance numbers, the H2R was graced with significant weight savings in the form of extensive carbon fiber parts throughout, full exhaust system, lack of necessary street-fairing parts such as lights and mirrors, and an array of winglets that would make any fighter pilot jealous.
