Iconic has spoken with VINData and the problem lies within the NHTSA database, this is indeed a 1993. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.
Upon its debut in 1991, the 900SS proved a resounding success due to the exotic Italian styling and punchy performance. As is typical of Ducati, however, the best means to market the bike was to produce a limited edition numbered variant. Accordingly, the Bologna-based firm released the 900 Superlight (SL) just a year later.
Originally, Ducati only planned to released 500 examples; over time, that number grew to around 900, with 300 yellow variants making their way stateside.
Though it featured the same engine, frame, and suspension as the standard 900SS, the Superlight boasted a variety of choice extras. Moreover, throughout the model’s production life, Ducati released several iterations — beginning with the Superlight I and culminating with the Superlight IV in 1995. The Superlight I (like the one being offered here) featured a set of 17-inch Marvic wheels, carbon fiber fenders, and a sporty solo seat. Together, these upgrades shaved nearly 25lbs off off the dry weight, making it one of the lightest bikes in its class.
This example is VIN: ZDM1LC4M5PB006728. The seller purchased the bike November 2013.
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 1,923 miles. The odometer shows 19,417 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller states, “the bike had its Desmo service completed at 17,258 miles. On December 5th, 2023 the bike had an annual service completed with all fluids flushed, new timing belts, new battery, and carburetors rebuilt.”
Modifications:
Per the seller, “the bike is loaded with period correct accessories such as high compression 944 big bore pistons, Keihin flat slide smooth bore carburetors, full floating cast-iron front disc brakes, Ohlins front fork springs, Ohlins steering damper, Oberon clutch slave cylinder, billet aluminum rearsets, vented clutch cover, carbon fiber exhaust, carbon fiber front mudguard, carbon fiber rear hugger, carbon fiber dash, leather Corbin seat, and Zero Gravity tinted windshield.”
It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tires with date codes of 5015 and 2617.
The sale includes one key, owner’s manual, tool kit, an extra fiberglass front fairing painted to match, and various take-off parts.
