Introduced in 1973 (and produced through 1987), the RD250 was a popular option for youngsters who wanted fun and a little attitude at a reasonable price. The ’75 model had revised cylinder heads and gear ratios, and it was the last year of the original styling before the coffin tank and speed block liveries came into play in 1976.
Here’s an entertaining take on “what the fuss was about” with the RD250 by Marc Ryan of Biker and Bike. He notes, “They were loud, annoying, brightly coloured and dangerous and old people complained about them. That was enough for us. We were helplessly in love from first sight. To own an RD and ride it like a dick was to be the coolest kid on the estate and became every spotty kid’s dream.”
This example is VIN: 352309656; Engine: 352309656. The seller purchased the bike September 2023 from a local Yamaha dealership where it spent more than a decade in storage. Per the seller, “I planned to keep it and ride it but last Fall I purchased a ’67 Kawasaki W2TT and my plans changed.”
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 10 miles. The odometer shows 16,240 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller states, “A new AGM battery was installed last year. Petcock sometimes leaks fuel from the brass pipe, while in reserve or on position (not while it’s off).”
Modifications:
Mikuni carburetors and Y boot.
K&N air filter.
Hagon rear shocks.
It is riding on IRC Grand High Speed tires with date codes of 4810.
The sale includes two keys, new decals, and tool kit from a ’73 RD350.
